YouTube premium family plan price increased

Following a price increase, a family subscription to YouTube Premium now costs $22.99 per month, according to 9to5Google. The family plan, which now costs an additional $5 per month, gives you and up to five other people advantages like ad-free streaming and background playback.

For new customers, the new price is already in effect, so you can no longer join up for the former $17.99 rate. According to a YouTube email obtained by 9to5Google, "this change will take place on your next billing cycle commencing on or after November 21, 2022." According to an email forwarded to a Verge staff member, though, if you were grandfathered in at a cheaper price as a prior Google Play Music subscriber, you'll pay that lower cost until your April billing date. According to YouTube spokesperson Marni Greenberg, prices will be "adjusted" in the US, Canada, Great Britain, Japan, Indonesia, Brazil, Turkey, and Argentina.

Google provides a support page where you may vent your complaints if you're not thrilled with the price hike. However, since the business explicitly states that "you will not receive a response," it will essentially be as though you are throwing your grievances into the vacuum. The business did discontinue a contentious trial that locked 4K videos behind a Premium subscription, but I have a hunch that this price rise for family plans will endure.

Marni Greenberg, a representative for YouTube, said in a statement, "We don't make these decisions lightly, and we appreciate how difficult this may be for our members. "This new price represents the full value of YouTube Premium and will enable us to build even more Premium features and continue to support the creators and musicians our members watch and listen to on YouTube," says YouTube.
